Ethics and Boundaries of AI and Technology in School Social Work Practice

This training will focus on ethics and boundaries of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technology in school social work. We will review the NASW Code of Ethics, Supplemental Ethical Standards for School Social Workers, and the NASW Standards for School social work services and how they apply to the use of AI and technology in practice. Participants will practice applying the profession’s ethics, boundaries, and standards to various scenarios for learning. Participants will consider how the values of the NASW Code of Ethics are upheld through professional ethics and boundaries in the use of AI and technology. 

1) Participants will apply the NASW Code of Ethics, Supplemental Ethical Standards for School Social Workers, and the NASW Standards for School social work services to the use of AI in practice.
2) Participants will compare various best practices related to AI and tech, and construct guidelines for their practice.
3) Participants will discuss and apply an ethical decision-making model in practice scenarios relating to ethics and boundaries in the use of AI and technology in practice.

Credits: 4 CEH for completion (Continuing Education Hours have been applied for through NASW WI)

About the Presenter:

Julie Incitti is the school social work consultant at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Her areas of focus include best practices in school social work practice, professional ethics and boundaries, mandated reporting, supporting students involved with the child welfare system, attendance/truancy, pupil records, comprehensive school mental health systems, and trauma-sensitive schools. Julie’s primary work responsibilities involve provision of training, resource development, and technical assistance. In addition, she serves on the Wisconsin Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention Board and networks with a variety of state level organizations with the goal of better provision of services to children, youth and families. Julie received her MSW from the University of Wisconsin – Madison before working as a school social worker in the public schools. Julie has served on the board of the Wisconsin School Social Workers Association (WSSWA), as president of WSSWA, on the Midwest Council of School Social Workers including a term as president, and various work groups with the School Social Work Association of America (SSWAA).

Instructions for Online Registration

1. When you are ready to register, click the red “REGISTER NOW” button. Enter your contact information.
2. Choose your registration type. Members must be logged in to access the member rate. Non-members, click “Continue As Guest” to access registration types.
3. Enter any accommodations needed.
4. Click “ADD.”
5. If you are only registering one individual, scroll down and click “Continue.” If you are registering multiple individuals, click “ADD” on a new ticket and register the next individual. Repeat for all registrations.
6. Review your registration details. If everything is correct, click “CONTINUE.”
7. Follow the prompt to select your payment option.  
   1. To pay by personal credit card, enter credit card and billing details as instructed. 
   2. To pay by school/organization check or credit card,  select “BYPASS PAYMENT.” A receipt will be sent to you, which can be forwarded to your payee. There is a link at the bottom of the receipt that says “Click here to pay” to allow for credit card payments.  You will need to forward this email to your business services office for processing and payment.
   3. To pay by check, select “BYPASS PAYMENT.” A receipt will be sent to you, which can be forwarded to your payee. Checks should be made out to “WSSWA” and sent to: WSSWA - P.O. Box 661, Hartland, WI 53029
